Nationwide CampaignsNHS Charities Together has a number of nationwide campaigns and partnerships raising awareness of NHS Charities and funds for the NHS through key projects and our members
NHS BIG TEA
What is the NHS Big Tea?
The NHS Big Tea is an annual fundraising and awareness campaign with the aim of celebrating the NHS birthday on 5 July and recognising the vital work of NHS charities in supporting our health service.
In hospitals, in homes and in local communities across the country, everyone who loves the NHS is encouraged to come together with friends, family and colleagues to host their own tea party and ‘raise a cuppa’ to the NHS.
NHS BIG TEA 2018
The campaign was established by NHS Charities Together in 2018 to mark the 70th anniversary of the NHS, with more than 4,000 parties taking place across the UK. Over £250,000 was raised for NHS charities.
In addition, the campaign generated substantial media coverage and publicity including:
- a live broadcast of ITV’s This Morning from Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea Hospital in west London, featuring a tea party and interviews with patients, NHS staff and fundraisers
- a City Hall tea party event hosted by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and members of the London Assembly
- public endorsements and hospital visits from celebrities including: Stacey Solomon; John Craven; Lorraine Kelly; Holly Willoughby; Amanda Holden; Edith Bowman and many more
- NHS Charities Together chosen as official charity partner for the Daily Mail Health Hero Awards (September) and the Health Service Journal Awards (November).
The campaign was fully supported by NHS England and formed part of the wider celebrations around NHS70 throughout the year.

This year we want to build on the incredible success of last year’s event and establish the NHS Big Tea as an annual fundraising campaign for NHS charities.
Once again, we will provide resources and materials for NHS charities to promote the NHS Big Tea campaign in their local communities and we hope to encourage hospital staff, patients and NHS supporters across the country to celebrate the NHS birthday on Friday 5 July with their own NHS Big Tea party
We are currently planning our diary of new campaigns and events. These include Walk 4 Wards, the NHS Big Tea and Year of the Nurse. More updates to come soon!
