A disused outdoor space has been transformed into a shared growing and wellbeing area thanks to NHS Charities Together funding, as Hospital Trust staff prepare to join the NHS Big Tea.

The revamped allotment and garden at North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust will promote physical and mental wellbeing in an inclusive environment through the delivery of socially prescribed activities for the benefit of NHS staff, volunteers, patients, family, and friends.

A total of 100 sunflowers were planted at the site by 100 volunteers at the end of February when the allotment was initially launched to mark the centenary of North Middlesex University hospital. The flowers are set to bloom throughout the summer.

The area was created specifically to provide staff with more outdoor space that can be used during break times as it is an ideal location for getting together to enjoy a tea break with others.

A spokesperson for North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust said:

“We are delighted that funding from NHS Charities Together has enabled us to create this wellbeing space for NHS staff. Having this place to relax and recharge is more important than ever after the challenging year that we have all had.”

The North London Trust plans to open another green space on its site for staff to enjoy, as part of its NHS Big Tea celebrations on Monday 5 July.

Hundreds of individuals, community groups and organisations throughout the UK have signed up to take part in the NHS Big Tea, which can be celebrated anytime and anywhere with a tea party that can be held in person or virtually.

About the NHS Big Tea

Taking place on the NHS’s birthday on 5th July, NHS Charities Together is urging the public to join the UK’s biggest tea break and be part of a huge outpouring of thanks while raising money for the incredible people in the NHS who have been there for the nation over the last year.

Everyone can take part by raising a mug or holding their own virtual or physical tea party (following the latest social distancing guidance) at 3pm on that day or at any time that suits them on or around that date.

NHS Charities Together will use the funds raised through the NHS Big Tea to increase the practical and emotional support available to NHS staff, patients and volunteers are they continue to battle the Covid crisis and start down the long road to recovery.
